Abstract

India currently produces about 128 million tonnes of paddy from about 44 million hectares of land. Rice is the main cereal food of the country. Paddy is milled in different types of mills. With increase in paddy production number of mills have also grown from 59,028 in 1970 to 1,39,298 in 2001. These mills are spread in most of the states of the country. In the recent years we are exporting rice to many countries. With the growing importance of rice milling industry this study was undertaken to highlight the issues/problems rice milling industry is facing. The Delphi study on rice milling industry highlights technical, structural or legal and managerial aspects viewed by experts. The experts also gave their opinion for the best solutions of those problems/issues which may be useful for researchers, government, entrepreneurs and policy makers.
