Abstract

Colour measurement of cotton is very important because its price depends on its degree of whiteness when marketed. Conventional classing techniques of cotton have been replaced by instrumented grading methods as they are highly accurate, precise and give uniformity in measurements. Pocket Colorimeter design based on the photoelectric principle reads the percentage reflectance and degree of yellow pigmentation in cotton sample under test. A good linearity was observed in the variation of photodiode resistance with HVI colour tiles. The Pocket Colorimeter is a simple, handy battery operated instrument and mayfind its utility in fields and markets for on-spot grading.
