Abstract

A study was conducted to compare technical features and field performance of two commercially available models of combine harvesters namely: tractor side mounted combine (C1) and tractor riding type combine (C2). Both the machines were evaluated for harvesting wheat and paddy crop. Rack & Shoe losses and grain breakage in tank for wheat crop was 0.18 and 3.62 percent for machine C1 and 0.25 and 2.54 percent for machine C2 whereas, in paddy crop these losses were 0.34 and 2.44 for machine C1 and 0.67 and 0.80 percent for machine C2 respectively. The field capacity of machine C1 and C2 was 0.40 and 0.51 ha/h for wheat and 0.31 and 0.51 ha/h for paddy respectively. Visibility and ease of operation was better in case of side-mounted combine. During operation no breakdown in both the combines was observed besides minor adjustments
