The study was conducted in different blocks of Samastipur district of Bihar state to find out the present status of the installed biogas plants, socio-personal characteristics of biogas plant owner and the constraints perceived by them. It was observed that out of total 50 biogas plants 17 were under working condition and rest 33 were under non-working condition. The working biogas plant owner and non-working biogas plant owners defer significantly in terms of size of family, education of respondent, size of holding and herd size. The. most important constraint perceived by working biogas plant owner was lack of trained mason (47%) followed by difficult process of getting subsidy (41%) and delay in subsidy (35%) whereas the same for non-working biogas plant owner was high installation cost (57%) followed by lack of trained mason and delay in subsidy each by 47 percent.
