Automation of irrigation system in protected cultivation is done mainly to make the irrigation operation precise, perfect and efficient. The two types of automation in irrigation system namely conditional and non-conditional has their own advantages and limitations. The automated irrigation system is widely practiced on Indo-Israel project in growing different horticultural crops inside green house, net house, open field and orchard. The automation helps in controlling the irrigation valves, pumps, and fertilizer injectors for numerous operations even in a big project with minimum or even no manual interventions. The irrigation system network design and field crop plan layout are discussed in this paper. Automation of irrigation helps in increasing the overall efficiency of irrigation system and thereby saving the precious water and fertilizer.
