Agriculture is the most important sector of the economy of Haryana State. Availability of adequate farm power to achieve timeliness of operations is a crucial factor for achieving higher productivity and yields. The major sources of farm power are human, bullock, diesel engine and tractor. In the present study, the trends in the availability and use of tractors; diesel sets, electric motors and other power sources in the state at different time periods were assessed. There has been a continuous increase in the population densities (No.11000 ha) of tractors, diesel engines and electric motors. The tractor population increased from 3.45 tractors/1000 ha in 1970–71 to 59.45 tractorsl 1000 ha in 2000–01. But, the draft animal power densities have been constantly decreasing due to steep rise of mechanical power in different districts. The contribution of female agricultural workers is on the increase over the years. The total district-wise human labour force densities have also increased considerably in the year 2000–01.
