Status of Agro Residue Based Briquette Plants in Punjab - A Case Study

Abstract

A survey was conducted to study the manufacturing processes adopted by the briquette fuel making units in Punjab. For one of such plants as a case study unit, economic analysis was done to examine the viability of briquette manufacturing. It was found that the case study unit was making profit achieving a B:C Ratio of 1.035, Internal rate of returns as 14.84% and Net. Present Value of Rs. 6.648 lakh. Break: Even Point was for a briquette production of 8768 quintals and 9538 quintals per year, respectively, for 8 and 10 months of productive time per year. The Pay Back Period of the unit was 7.24 years. All calculations were done at 12% discount rate.
