Abstract

Aquaculture has been practised in the country for centuries. However, it was only during the past two decades, when great advances were made in culture techniques, feed development and chemical treatments, which contributed significantly to the development of the economy. To boost the positive impact on economy, many fisheries and fishery resources require a major change in development and management policies and strategies, at national and regional levels. This article describes the growth, acceptance and short falls of the system and their possible remediation.
