Abstract

A briquetting machine for compressing agro-wastes/residues to make combustible briquettes of high calorific value was designed and developed. This paper discusses the salient features of the machine and its evaluation. The machine could be used successfully for briquetting of agro-wastes such as rice straw, wheat straw, tree leaves etc. The briquettes have the potential for being used as fuel. The briquettes had densities of about 717 times higher than the corresponding raw material, which would facilitate transportation and storage at a reduced cost.
