Abstract

The tractor industry is quite competitive in India. It is very important to know the target market the potential buyers specific needs and their purchasing power. The past trend of tractor sales in the country, state wise as well as HP range wise with the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) will help to a great extent in deciding the future marketing approach and strategies by the tractor manufacturing firms.

The Indian Tractor Industry is the largest in the world accounting for approximately one third of global production. Until 1960, the demand of tractors was met entirely through imports. Indigenous manufacturing of tractors began in 1961, but India continued to import tractors to bridge the total needs up to late 1970s. The Indian tractor industry has come a long way since then. The sales volume growth of tractor industry in the past about two decades shows a compound annual growth rate of 5.81 per cent, despite seasonal variations that cause natural fluctuations in the demand of tractors.
