Abstract

A bullock-drawn cotton ridger was developed indigenously by Kalahandi farmers and was tested in the farmer's field by K. V. K., Kalahandi for its suitability. The field performance was compared with traditional practices adopted by the farmers such as using desi plough and phowra for intercultural operation. The results were found better in all respects. From its evaluation the field capacity of the bullock-drawn cotton ridger is significantly higher than the combination of desi plough and phowrah for intercultural operation in cotton crop. Field capacity of the bullock-drawn cotton ridger is 0.108 to 0.14 ha/h as compared to 0.031 to 0.0325 ha/h in case of desi plough and 0.012 to 0.0125 ha/h in phowrah. Cost of intercultural operation is 225 to 292 Rs/ha in case of bullock-drawn cotton ridger and Rs. 1585 to Rs. 1657 Rs/ha in case of desi plough and phowra.
