A watershed development plan was prepared by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mundra – Kutch Research implemented by Rural Agro Society Development Mundra (NGO) during 2001-2005 in the village Babiya of Kutch district with the financial support of District Rural Development Agency planning Bhuj. A study was undertaken to evaluate the period impact of watershed management technologies on the rain water harvesting. In the post project about 70% of the arable land had assured irrigation facilities which can provide one or two supplemental irrigation to the crops as compared to 10% during pre project period. It is the results of water stored in check dams thereby increasing the number of open wells in the watershed area after the project implementation. Gross cropped area has also increased from 420 ha in 2000 to 650 ha in 2006. As a consequence the cropping intensity has increased from 55% to 105% cropping pattern has also changed.
