Poly house technology has proven its utility for nursery raising and off season vegetable and horti-floricultural production in terms of increase in yield, quality of produce and early maturity under varied agro-climatic conditions. Now a day this technology is being used by farmers of the north eastern states to grow high value crops but higher construction cost at initial stage is the major constraint for adoption on large scale by small and marginal farmers. Efforts have been made by various research institutes to design and develop the low cost poly house using locally available materials. However, shape, size and cost incurred in the construction of poly house are location specific and vary region to region. Selection and design considerations with salient results on the basis of research carried in the different parts of country are summarized in this paper.
