Abstract

All India Coordinated Research Project on Farm Implements and Machinery with 24 centers located all over country are engaged in research & development of farm tools and equipment, prototype feasibility testing, prototype manufacturing and frontline demonstrations. Farming communities have started using agro-equipment on a large scale in various farm operations like tillage, sowing, planting, interculture, plant protection, harvesting & threshing and for hill agriculture and horticultural crops. The awareness of latest available farm tools and equipment through Frontline Demonstrations (FLD) among farming communities has resulted in a shift towards mechanization, extending the scope of agricultural machinery in the Indian agriculture. Total 71 number of farm tools and equipment were demonstrated and covered an area of 2,58,816 ha, 17,640 h of threshing operation, dug 1,26,556 pits with post hole diggers for plantation, made 1,743 demonstrations with horticultural tools and 352 h with machines other than threshers i.e. bush cutter, mini combine harvester since July 2000 till June 2010.
