Abstract

The study was planned to estimate the pump capacity and power requirement of agricultural pump sets for different agro climatic zones of Punjab for different farm sizes by using three methods viz. based on Daily Peak Evapo-transpiration Rate, based on Moisture Depletion and based on Actual Crop Evapo-transpiration. Pump capacity for wheat crop was found to be 3.13–78.25 l/s and for paddy crop it was 5.25–131.25 l/s respectively for an area of 1 to 25 hectares and pump operating for 8 hours. Power requirements for paddy-wheat rotation for water table depth of 5- 35 m was 4.98–24.92 hp for zone 1 and 7.64 hp for zone 5, 10.3 hp for zones 2 and 3 and 6.32 hp for zone 4 for an area of 4.0 ha and pump operating for 8.0 hours.
