Workers, supervisors and other officials working in dairy and food processing plants suffer from high noise level. Noise pollution in some dairy and food products processing industries has become equally dangerous as to air and water pollution because it is regarded as a slow and insidious killer. This article discusses methods of measurement of various parameters of sound. The causes and harmful effect of noise are elaborated. Suitable measures are to be adopted to minimize the noise level for safety of people working in such environment. Engineering, administrative, personal and general measures to reduce the noise level have been also discussed. There is an urgent need to bring awareness among the owners/entrepreneur of dairy and food industry about harmful effects of noise pollution and easy but economic measures to control it.
