Abstract

A power operated flaxseed dehuller was developed for dehulling of flaxseed to recover the hulls for its use as lignan concentrate and dehulled flaxseed. Dehulled flaxseed may be used for oil extraction to get edible quality oil and meal. The developed flaxseed dehuller consists of a feed hopper, outer cylinder (casing), inner perforated cylindrical screen, emery coated abrasive cylindrical roller inside the perforated cylindrical screen, frame, main shaft and a prime mover (electric motor). Overall dimensions of the dehuller are 1410×785×1355 mm. It was evaluated for its performance and found that the capacity of the developed flaxseed dehuller was 50 kg/h and embryo recovery was about 60 to 64% for 1.35% w.b. moisture content of flaxseed.
