Abstract

Legume crops have particular characteristics of their high susceptibility to both water stress and water logging through out of its growing period. So, water management becomes the most indispensable factor for the productivity of leguminous crops. Water management ensures the maximum water use efficiency (WUE) which warrants the need for adoption of appropriate irrigation methods helping to create a favorable soil moisture environment for maximizing yield by conserving moisture, reducing weed growth and improving crop health. Appropriate method of irrigation plays a vital role in economizing irrigation water and optimizing crop yield considering the soil and climatic conditions. In this article, intensive research works during last two decades regarding water management for legumes has been reviewed and discussed so that a definite perception may be generated for the farmers as well as future researchers.
