Abstract

An economic analysis of packaging material used for storage of paddy was conducted. Paddy grains were stored in five different packaging material such as jute bag, HDPE woven lined bag, HDPE woven unlined bag, polypropylene bag and super grain bag. The durability of the package is based on the properties of the material of different packaging materials which affects the cost economics of the grain storage system. Fine paddy grains were used for storage in the present study. It was found that the super grain bag was economical to store paddy for more than one year whereas the polypropylene bag was economical to store paddy for less than a year.
