Daily stage as well as discharge data of five gauging stations namely Kantamal, Kesinga, Salebhata, Sundargarh and Tikarapara of middle reach of the Mahanadi river basin of Odisha were collected and statistically analyzed. The statistical parameters considered in analysis were mean, standard deviation and co-efficient of variation. The observed/measured data of stage and discharge were used to develop relation between the stage and discharge of each gauging station. The relation for each station was found to be in form of power equation with high values of co-efficient of determination (R2) ranging from 0.876 to 0.974 for different stations. The predicted data calculated by the developed relation was compared with the measured discharge for each station and found to be at par. The coefficient of determination (R2) between the predicted and measured discharge for each station were found to be higher than 0.90 which indicates that the developed relation can be used safely for prediction of discharge in each station of middle reach of the Mahanadi river basin.
