Abstract

As India ranks first in livestock population, chaff cutters have been utilized by numerous farming families to feed the cattle on a regular basis for rational and efficient utilization of available fodder. Since it’s coming into being, the design of the chaff cutter is currently being revised and developed continuously for more efficient cutting and easiness comfort for operators. The present study was undertaken to study the working of horizontally mounted blade power chaff cutter developed by F.C industries, Jaiton (Punjab), alongside its performance evaluation. The machine was made to go through various tests and parameters like quantity and quality of cut, blade hardness test, and performance index. The observations found were that it can be a good alternative to conventional power chaff cutter in terms of its less bulky and effective cutting mechanism and better performance in terms of variation and quality of fodder chaffed.
