In this paper, the consistency of intuitionistic fuzzy relational equations are discussed.We represent an intuitionistic fuzzy matrix as the Cartesian product of its membership matrix and its non membership matrix. By using this representation, the maximum solution of a consistent intuitionistic fuzzy relational equation is determined,in terms of those of fuzzy relational equations involving membership and non membership parts of the intuitionistic fuzzy matrix.
