The sugarcane crop covered almost 3.0% of total cultivated land in India and has been considered as cash crop/sure crop which accounting around 7.5% of the gross value in agricultural production. Over fifty million sugarcane growers and their family are depending on sugarcane cultivation and similar numbers of agricultural labors are dependents for their livelihood. A good crop with sustainability can be achieved by farmers through adoption of scientific recommendation. Agricultural extension and their link to growers is very crucial for the improvement of crop and yield. The sugarcane yield and sugar production is directly dependents on the planting methods, cultural practices, utilization of major and micro nutrients. The major constraints for the low productivity are imbalanced use of fertilizer, and conventional planting methods. The trench planting methods have higher yield as compare to conventional method and trench method also save irrigation water in comparison to conventional method of planting. There are several schemes implementing by state government and research institutions in Uttar Pradesh to promote the trench method of planting. To know the adoption level of trench planting method in all zones of Uttar Pradesh a study was undertaken in central, western and eastern zone. Districts Lakhimpur, Meerut and Bahraich were selected respectively for the study. Two sugar mills from each zone i.e. Gola and Kumbhi from central zone, Daurala and Mawana from western zone, Parley and Chilwaria from eastern zone were selected for the study. Study revealed that23.33% respondents has adopted trench planting method in central zone while 18.33% respondents in western zone and 28.33% respondents adopted trench planting method in eastern zone. Moreover 10% respondent in central zone, 11.66% in western zone and 18.33% respondents in eastern zone were partially adopted trench planting method. These farmers are shifting from conventional planting to trench planting. Study revealed that overall adoption percentage is 23.33% in Uttar Pradesh in present time. Study also revealed that farmers adopting trench method of planting due to significantly higher germination, tillering, malleable cane and yield.
