Crop diversification – need of an hour for Punjab

Abstract

Punjab being a land of rivers considered as one of the most fertile lands in India due to its geographical position and easy to level fields. Due to above it becomes first choice for green revolution resulting monoculture in Punjab and destroys its sustainability and depletes ground water. Although the green revolution, uses Punjab as food bowl for more than 30 years but later on the requirement of grains from Punjab is decreased for last 20 years that now needs to be moved towards diversification without monetary loss to the farmers. So a study was done on the past 15 years, the working of scientists and government is merged to get a steep conclusion with a way forward is given as rather than focusing on different crops, we should focus on the marketing of the given crop.
