Seasonal Incidence and Varietal Screening against Aphid (Aphis craccivora Koch) of Dolichos Bean (Lablab purpureus Linn)
Abstract
The investigation on population dynamics of aphid (Aphis craccivora Koch) on dolichos bean was conducted during Kharif, 2023 under field conditions at experimental plot of Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Ganeshkhind, Pune, Maharashtra. Aphid populations on Dolichos bean were first recorded in the 3rd week of June (2.80 aphids/ 10 cm twig). The peak incidence of A. craccivora was noticed during 1st week of September (36th SMW). Analysis showed a significant negative correlation between aphid population and minimum temperature and evening relative humidity. While morning relative humidity and rainfall had negative but non-significant correlations whereas, maximum temperature had positive and non-significant correlation, significant positive correlation was found with sunshine duration. Among the screened genotypes mean aphid counts ranged from 1.20 to 56.33 aphids per 10 cm twig, with no genotype completely free from infestation. Genotype GK-19-1 demonstrated the lowest incidence indicating resistance. Genotypes GK-19-2, Phule Suruchi, Phule Suruchi Selection-2, GK-19 and Konkan Bhushan showed moderate resistance, with counts between 24.28 and 25.25 aphids per twig. Moderately susceptible genotypes included GK-2-4, Phule Suruchi Selection-1 and GK-2-1, while GK-30, GK- 1–10 and GK-18-3 were classified as susceptible.
