The plant species S. nigrum Linn and S. surattense were subjected to chemotaxonomic studies by electrophoresing their protein contents to establish taxonomic correlation between the two species. Protein data have been shown to be of value in systematic of solanance. The present study provides useful information for the identification of the taxa, their relationship and the delimitation of their taxonomic status. The band patterns indicate phylogenetic interrelationship in S. nigrum and S. Surattense.
