Abstract

Natural dyes produced from the plants are used for dyeing clothes, designing, painting and also used industrially for the production of food colorants, cosmetics and so on. Because the production of synthetic dyes generates hazardous and toxic waste, so the plant based dyes due having great emportance. In this work, we developed a database of 200 plants that produce different colors. A menu is driven search engine allows the user to retrieve stored information such as the name of the plant, family, local name, part of the plants used for dye yielding process, type of colors produced and with reference. The developed database is freely available at http://mcbi.mitsbiotech.org.in/dyeplant.php.
