A bioproduct was developed by encapsulation of the Kluyveromyces marxianus CCEBI 2011 endopolygalacturonase enzyme in phosphatidylcholine liposomes, capable of activating defense responses in sugarcane against Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV). The liposomes obtained by the ethanol injection method, turned out to be spherical vesicles with an average size of 3.3 ± 2 μm; the encapsulation efficiency was 28.3 %. The bioproduct was applied via foliar to evaluate its biological activity. A randomized complete design with three repetitions was used, using three treatments and two varieties, SP70–1284 susceptible to SCMV and C323-68 resistant. The resistant cultivar showed no symptoms of infection during the development of the experiment; while in the susceptible variety the application of the bioproduct decreased the severity of the infection by 44.4%, demonstrating the ability of the biopreparation to raise the defenses against the SCMV.
