Abstract

Sugarcane is the main crop of western Uttar Pradesh especially in upper doaba region comprising Meerut & Saharanpur Mandal. In present scenario all the sugarcane based cropping system are facing problem of sustainability and prof it ability Keeping this view a technical intervention was introduced after assisment. In order to that an on farm trial was conducted during the 2013–14 to 2016–17 in Baghpat district of western Uttar Pradesh to assess the economic viability and controlling measure of sugarcane borers. The experiment comprising three treatments with four replications. Farmers practice sugarcane-wheat sequence considered as one of the treatment i.e. treat ment one. Intercropping of mustard with sugarcane and garlic with sugarcane were other treatments compared with farmer's practices i.e. T-2 and T-3 respectively. The result revealed that net return of garlic with Sugarcane was much higher as compare to farm erspractice (Rs. 126000.00 per hectare extra monitory gain). It was also noticed that in festation of borers was very low in sugarcane with garlic in comparison to treatment No one and two. Reasult have clearly in dicated that intercropping of garlic with autumn planting sugarcane is economically viable and able to effective control of borers down to 70–80% as well as wild animal like Blue Bull, Wild Pig and Sehi. It was similarly effective in all type of borers as root borer early shoot borer and top borer. It was also in dicated after harvest the sugarcane planted with onion was observed significantly higher organic carbon content in soil as compare to harvested field of sugarcane planted with mustard and after wheat. There has always been a demand to divert from use of harmful pesticide to apply the safer measure for pest and in sect management in crop protection. Many farm ers are practicing the kind of plant protection measures without any scientific validation for the same. In present study such kind of technical interventions were tested with farmers practice.
