Abstract

The experiment was carried out during April 2007 in the Laboratory of Department of Horticulture, Janta Vedic College Baraut (Baghpat), Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut (U.P.) India. Gladiolus wasbrought into cultivation from its native habitat from South Africa, perhaps during the ancient Greekperiod. The exact date of introduction in India is not confirmed but the development of gladiolus in Indiastarted only in the rarely years of the century after the discovery of primulisnus gladioli (G. primulinus). The different types of gladiolus show marked distinction in various characters and it is impossible toplace them under one or another group. The data 6th day was showed significant effect the maximum Noof floret open/spike (10.00) was recorded on 6th day treated with Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 100ppm + 8HQC200ppm and followed by (9.66) treated with Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 200ppm + 8HQC-400ppm, (9.33) treated with Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 200ppm and Sucrose 10% + 8HQC-400ppm, (9.00) treated with Sucrose 20% + AgNO3 200ppm + 8HQC-400ppm, (8.66) Sucrose 10% + 8HQC-200ppm (8.33) treated with Sucrose 10% and (7.66) was minimum floret open/spike from Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 100ppm andcontrol. The maximum Uptake of Solution (31.60) was recorded on 3rd day treated with Sucrose 10% +8HQC-400ppm and followed by (31.00) treated with Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 200ppm + 8HQC-400ppm, (30.00) Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 100ppm + 8HQC-200ppm, (28.30) treated with control, (27.30) Sucrose10% + 8HQC-200ppm, (27.00) treated with Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 100ppm, (26.30) treated with Sucrose 20% + AgNO3 200ppm + 8HQC-400ppm, (24.00) treated with Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 200ppm, (23.66)Sucrose 10% was minimum Uptake of Solution. The data 6th day was significantly. Vase-life of cut spikeof gladiolus. Sucrose10% + AgNO3 100ppm + 8HQC-200ppm was most effective in floret opened/spike. Sucrose 10% + AgNO3 200ppm + 8HQC-400ppm was most effective in percentage of opened floret. Sucrose 20% + AgNO3 200ppm + 8HQC-400ppm was most effective in longevity of individual floret.
