Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of gibberellic acid and boron alone and in combination on vegetative growth, fruiting and yield of phalsa in Garden, Department of Fruit Science, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh in the year 2022–23 using nine treatments viz., T1-Control-water spray, T2-0.3% boron, T3-0.6% boron, T4-30ppm GA3, T5-40ppm GA3, T6-30ppm GA3+ 0.3% boron, T7-40ppm GA3+ 0.3% boron, T8-30ppm GA3+ 0.6% boron and T9-40ppm GA3+ 0.6% boron, which were replicated thrice in randomized block design. The results of the experiment revealed that the foliar application of gibberellic acid and boron either alone or in combination is more effective as compared to control. Among all treatments, pre-harvest application of 40ppm of GA3 + 0.6% of boron produced maximum shoot length (142.69cm), diameter of shoot (0.98cm), number of shoots per plant (94.68), number of leaves per shoot (45.86), number of fruits per shoot (83.46), fruit set (76.02%), yield per plant (6.48kg), yield per hectare (99.73q), fruit diameter (1.08cm), weight of 100 fruit (101.68g), and fruit volume (1.30cc) followed by 30ppm of GA3 + 0.3% of boron as compared to rest of other treatments including control. As the chemical quality parameters are concerned the fruits having maximum total soluble solids (26.41°Brix), total sugars (20.06%), reducing sugar (16.08%), non-reducing sugar (3.98%), ascorbic acid (41.68mg) and reduced titratable acidity (2.32%) were recorded in fruits from produced from the plants treated with 40ppm of GA3 + 0.6% of boron in the plains of northern India.
