The present investigation entitled “Characterization and Evaluation of Various Germplasm of Vegetable Mustards (Saag Sarson) for NWPZ of UP ”was conducted during the rabi season of 2019-20 and 2020-21 at the Horticultural Research Centre under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology. The experiment was designed using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications and included different five germplasms of vegetable mustard (Saag Sarson) i.e., G1 Pusa Saag Sarson, G2 Local Collection-1, G3 Local Collection-2, G4 Local Collection-3 and G5 Local Collection-4. Promising germplasm accessions were identified for different eleven morpho-economic and biotic stress traits, which may be useful for vegetable mustards (Saag Sarson) commercial cultivation in NWPZ of UP. The result revealed the significance of various parameters of vegetable mustards. In the experiment, it was concluded that germplasm G1 Pusa Saag Sarson exhibited superior performance for most of the parameters such as days to germination %, leaf weight (gm) of 5 leaves per plot, leaf width (cm), leaf length (cm), seed weight (kg) per plot, disease powdery mildew free, disease alternaria free with the best value than rest of germplasms. Among the germplasm, germplasm G2 Local Collection-1 recorded the highest value of parameters such as days to 50 % flowering, plant height (m) and germplasm G4 Local Collection-3 recorded the highest value such as Leaf weight (gm) per 5 plants, number of leaves per plant as compared to rest of germplasms. Among the five germplasms evaluated, the highest seed weight (kg) per plot was recorded at germplasm G1 Pusa Saag Sarson and is best for developing the planting material of vegetable mustard for crop improvement. It is also best as maximum parameters are covered for the diversification of traditional crops as compared to the rest of the germplasms. The germplasm G1 Pusa Saag Sarson vegetable mustard has the potential for cultivation in humid tropical and subtropical climates in Uttar Pradesh, India.
