An explorative trial(pot experiment) was conducted during rabi season of 20042006 at Indian Institute of Vegetable Research Varanasi to study the effect of single and dual inoculation on plant growth and nodulation properties of popular genotypes of pea [Pisum sativum (L.)]. The nodule number, nodule weight per plant, nodule diameter and nitrogen content were increased linearly from active growth stage to peak at flowering and then declined irrespective of genotypic variation and or microbial association in the rhizoplane of pea crop. A higher plant height and fresh root weight observed in all growth stage S1 S2 S3(15.8, 22.5, 24.8 cm and 850, 1500, 1788mg) respectively under dual inoculation (Rhizobium + PSB) fallowed by Azotobactor + PSB. Significantly higher nodule weight, number of nodule/plant diameter and nitrogen content was found (257.5 mg, 44.6,4.4 mm, and 9.5) respectively under dual inoculation (Rhizobium+ PSB) fallowed by Azotobactor + PSB.A higher nodule weight, nodule number, nodule number and nitrogen content was found in Azad P-1 221.8,41.3,3.5, and 8.6 respectively fallowed by Arkel and Azad P-3.whenevr higher plant height was observed in Azad P-3 followed by Azad P-1 and Arkel. The higher nodule weight, diameter and nitrogen content was indicative of the perforcemance of Azad P-1 to Rhizobium +PSB.
