Abstract

Awareness is important for successful implementation of any development programme. The information source utilization by rural poors was studied in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh through interviews of 275 rural poors from 3 least developed blocks of 12 Village Panchayats. Rural poors, use inter personal sources like Friends/Relatives, Fellow Farmers and Shopkeepers for most information. Radio is sought most for entertainment and political information. Thus, it is implied that in order to communicate with rural poors, one has to depend on a blend of inter-personal sources like Friends/Relatives, Fellow Farmers and Shopkeepers as well as Extension personnel, Scientists and also the Mass medium like Radio, so that rural poors are thoroughly covered as well as convinced about the massages.
