Abstract

Combining abilities of F1 and F2 generations of crosses involving ten diverse cultivars of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench) were analyzed for eight traits. General combining ability variances were higher than those of specific combining ability for all the characters except number of nodes per main shoot in Fl. Parents PK, KS404 and KS405 were found good general combiners for fruit yield and other traits in both generations. Three hybrids viz., KS405 x KS404, PK x KS405 and PK x KS404 both in F1 and F2 were identified as most promising and their use in hybrid breeding programme in Okra would be most advantageous.
