Abstract

An experiment was conducted with 36 diverse genotypes of bottle gourd to as certain genetic variability. Heritability, Genetic advance, genotypic coefficient of variation and phenotypic coefficient of variation for ten characters were studied. Significant differences among genotypes were observed for all the character under study, In general. Phenotypic coefficients of variation were higher than their respective genotypic corfficeient of variation for all the character, the highest phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation were observed for fruit length (em) followed by fruit yield per plant, estimated yield, fruit diameter (em). Fruit per pant and vine length (em). High heritability (broad sense) along with high genetic advance was found for all the character under study. The high corfficient of variation provides ample scope for selection of desirable type of genotypes whereas; high heritability coupled with high genetic advance suggesting preponderance of additive gene action and indicating that selection will be more effective.
