The present investigation was carried out with seven varieties of papaya. Temperature plays a major role in the germination of seeds. The seeds kept in Seed Germinator at 26°C became very much beneficial during winter month for their proper germination. Seedlings raised under protected environment as polyhousewas better medium sown during IVth week of January and became beneficial to insure the prolific growth and development of papaya seedlings. The seedlings were escaped from frost injury during winter months on their growing stage and they had become more hardy due to their short stature and tolerant to low temperature as well as frost injury. There was less incidence of virus due to protective raising of seedlings. Maximum yield per plant (67.89kg) was recorded in P S 1 which was significantly superior among all and followed by Pusa Delicious, Pant Papaya 1, Pusa Majesty and Pusa Giant. The minimum fruit yield was noted in Pusa Dwarf.
