Vital statistics are essential for tracking population dynamics, assessing health risks, and evaluating health programs. Measuring how many people die from certain causes each year helps to assess the effectiveness of our health systems and direct resources of the country to the most needed sectors of the economy. As per MCCD data, more female deaths have been recorded in the youth category due to certain infections and parasitic diseases, while among males in the youth category, diseases of the circulatory system were the major contributors to causes of death. Among all youths in the age category of 15-24 years, the leading cause of death was certain infections and parasitic diseases. Another leading cause of death is injury, poisoning, and external consequences among youths. The health system can play an important role in the recording of vital statistics at the district level, and the determination of causes of death can play a key role in strengthening medical education and the health system. We need further proper reporting of data at a segmented level to strengthen the system and statistical reporting, which will give shape to future research.
