With increasing longevity, there is a change in the cohort of cardiac patients. Elderly patients with comorbidities may be encountered in clinical practice. In patients with a pacemaker undergoing non-cardiac surgery, electromagnetic interference can alter the function of pacemaker. Additional concern during open-heart surgery leads displacement with venous cannulation, electrical activity during cardioplegia, damage to device with defibrillation. Management of such patients calls for a multidisciplinary effort involving cardiologist, electrophysiologist, device manufacturer anaesthesiologist a (and) surgeon.
