Since the start of COVID-19 in India, innumerable lives have been lost, compounding the social and economic destruction. The COVID-19 second wave has been even more devastating as there has been a rapid increase in cases across the country which made people rushing for hospital beds and life saving medications and oxygen. The second wave is considered as the worst scenario in public health since the freedom. The bells have been ringing for a possible third wave in the country even when the vaccination has been emerged as a vital protective shield. The role of local bodies in the districts and the government of the state will have a major role to play if COVID-19 has to be curbed down. This short review throws a light on different areas of concern of a possible third wave.
