During pregnancy many complex and dynamic psychological and physiological changes occur in women’s body. These changes are responsible for oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The aim of this study was to assess the self-reported factors affecting the OHRQoL among pregnant women.
In this qualitative descriptive study, hundred pregnant women studied from two tertiary care hospitals of Ajmer city, Rajasthan, India. The structured questionnaire was used to collect and analyze the data.
Daily life, psychological and physiological impact, barriers in utilization of dental services and concerns about fetal health were found as important factors which influence the OHRQoL during pregnancy.
The findings help to understand the oral health issues impacting pregnant women and to achieve improved oral health outcomes. The result of this study may help health care workers and policy makers for improving the oral health of pregnant women.
