Field experiments were conducted for two consecutive Rabi seasons of 2013–14 and 2014–15 on sandy clay loam soils of Ragolu, AP with three organic nutrient supply packages and five varieties with an objective to find an appropriate 100 per cent organic nutrient supply system and suitable variety. The pooled data of two years revealed that supply of 100 per cent recommended N thorough l/3r<i each of green leaf manure + poultry manure + groundnut cake recorded significantly higher yield attributes, grain yield, higher root biomass and N and K uptake at harvest. Among varieties, RGL 1880 recorded the highest number of tillers, panicles and 1000-grain weight, per cent hulling and milling, amylase and protein content. Filled grains per panicle, grain and straw yield, gross returns, net returns and rupee per rupee invested were higher in MTU 1010. The L: B ratio, volume expansion ratio and elongation ratio were noticeably higher in JGL 1798. Among the varieties infestation of stem borer, BPH, leaf folder and per cent incidence of sheath blight were noticeably lower in MTU 1010.
