Effect of plant spacing and nitrogen levels on growth and yield of hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L)

Abstract

An experiment was conducted during the Kharif season of 2010 on hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L) 27p61 at agronomy research farm of Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad using different spacing and nitrogen levels in randomized block design with three replications. Plant height and dry matter content were significantly higher under plant spacing of 20 x 10 over 15 x 15 and 20 x 15 cm at all the growth stages except at 60 DAT and at harvest whereas increasing levels of nitrogen up to 200 kg N/ha were significantly superior over rest of nitrogen levels at all growth stages except 30 DAT. Dry malts production increased significantly at all the crop growth stages with increasing levels of N up to 200 N kg N/ha. Growth and straw yield was significantly higher in plant spacing of 20 x 10 over the higher spacing of 20 x 15 and closer spacing of 15 x 15 cm. The grain yield (81.95 q/ha) and straw yield (98.81 q/ha) increased with the nitrogen levels up to 200 N kg/ha. Interaction effects were found non-significant between N levels and plant spacing with respect to growth and yield.
