An experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Ragolu, AP for two seasons with old and new molecules of insecticides to identify the best chemical for managing paddy stem borer. Eight insecticides viz flubendamide + buprofezin 4 + 20 @ (35 + 175 g ai/ha), flubendamide 20 WDG (35 g ai/ha), buprofezin 25 SC (175 g ai/ha), acephate 95 SG (562.5 g ai/ha), dinotefuran 20 (40 g ai/ha), dinotefuran 20 (30 g ai/ha), acephate 75 per cent (600 g ai/ha) and monocrotophos 36 WSC (500 g ai/ha, check) were evaluated in the field during Kharif and Rabi seasons in 2009–10 against stem borer Scirpophaga incertulas. The results revealed that out of eight insecticides sprayed at 10 and 60 days after transplanting the stem borer incidence was lowest in case of flubendamide + buprofezin 4 + 20 (35 + 175 g ai/ha) followed by acephate 75 per cent (600 g ai/ha) and dinotefuran 20 (40 g ai/ha) compared to all other molecules and control.
