Abstract

The studies conducted on a proportionate sample of 70 employees of HP State Cooperative Bank Limited, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh revealed that non-cooperative behavior of superiors followed by job ambiguity with no incentive system and improper method of supervision were the main reasons for employees’ grievances. Opinion survey, exit interview and gripe boxes were the main techniques used for identifying grievances. The respondents perceived that improper handling and/or non-handling of grievances may reduce employees’ morale, create unrest/frustration, adversely affect sincerity and commitment to their job and ultimately the employees’ turn-over in the organization. Therefore a majority of the respondents (91.00%) suggested that every grievance should be considered as important one; should be handled within a stipulated time period (77.00%); decision regarding the grievance be properly communicated and implemented (69.00%); treating all the workers equally without any caste, creed and religion in order to improve their efficiency and productivity in the organization.
