Effect of weeds pollens on the germination of crops pollens.

Pollen allelopathy occurs when pollen toxins (allelochemicals) inhibits the sexual reproduction in heterospecifics. We studied, the allelopathic effects (in-vitro and in-vivo) of pollen grains of common weeds (Argemone mexicana L., Cannabis saliva L. and Ricinus communis L.) on important crops (Abelmoscus esculentus L., Brassica juncea L., Nicotiana labaccum L. and Solanum melongena L.). Both in-vitro and in-vivo. The pollen of weeds reduced pollens germination and pollens tube length in all target crops except Abelmoscus esculentus.
