A laboratory bioassay was undertaken during June-July 2004 to find the allelopathic effect of aqueous leaf extracts of Trianthema portulacastrum L. on germination and initial seedling growth of rice (Oryza sativa L. var. Gurjari). The allelopathic effects of different concentrations (1,3 and 5%) of leaf extract were studied. Results indicated that aqueous extracts of the leaf significantly delayed and inhibited the germination and seedling growth. At 10 days after sowing, higher concentration (5%) of leaf extract inhibited the germination and seedling length as compared to control.
