Allelopathic effects of Eichhornia crassipes on seed germination and seedling growth of wheat, rice, lentil and chickpea.

Effects of aqueous extracts of leaf, petiole and root of Eichhornia crassipes on germination of seeds and seedling growth were studied. Leaf and root extracts significantly affected rice germination and that of chickpea was affected by petiole extract. Stimulation of germination, and shoot and root lengths occurred at six hours of soaking in 10% extract.
