Effects of root extracts of Mikania micrantha H.B.K. on soil microbial community

Abstract

We studied the allelopathic effects of Mikania micrantha weed on soil microbial community structure. The experiment was done on soils treated with root extracts of M. micrantha at 0.05 g dw/ml concentration. Soil microbial community structure was determined by analyzing phospholipid fatty acids (PLFA). The root extracts significantly increased the total soil and fungal PLFA and also increased the ratio of fungi to bacteria. The application of root extracts changed the soil microbial community structure. These results suggested that the allelopathic activity of M. micrantha influenced the soil microbial community.
