Abstract

The effects of leaf residue of Croton bonplandianum was studied on the growth and metabolism of Parthenium. The leaves size and seedling height of test plant was inhibited by leaf residues. The number of leaves, branches, capitula and seeds/plant were decreased. The inhibition of growth was due to decrease in chlorophyll, sugars, protein and lipid contents, while organic and amino acids were increased. Thus leaf residues of Croton bonplandianum may be used to control the Parthenium.
